There are bands that fit<\/em> the 80s \u2014 and then there are bands that felt like they arrived to warn us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was Devo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellow jumpsuits. Red \u201cenergy dome\u201d hats. Deadpan faces. Movements like factory robots. And music that buzzed, twitched, and pulsed like electricity trying to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the surface, Devo looked like a joke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Underneath, they were making one of the smartest statements in pop \u2014 the idea of \u201cde-evolution\u201d:<\/strong> maybe we weren\u2019t progressing\u2026 maybe we were sliding backward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And they wrapped all that social commentary in hooks you could shout along to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Songs like \u201cWhip It\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cGirl U Want\u201d<\/strong> made MTV explode. \u201cFreedom of Choice\u201d<\/strong> felt like a prophecy. Even their covers \u2014 like \u201c(I Can\u2019t Get No) Satisfaction\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 turned familiar songs into something strange, sharp, and brand new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smart. Funny. A little unsettling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And still way ahead of the curve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because yeah \u2014 the world did get stranger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And somehow\u2026 Devo saw it coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
